Jeff: With what joy did I discover your substack post today! I grew up (and still live) in the Norwich diocese. Its manufacturing boon is decades removed, and the area is largely a remnant of the industry that attracted many Catholic immigrants to the region. You’ve captured and shared the remnant of faith that I hope brings it a new springtime!
Jeff, you paint beautiful pictures with your descriptions. You barely need a camera. With your descriptions and the camera together your work is so inspiring and joyful. Thank you so much for your work. I'm sorry I can't help support you. I am 91 now and my son without employment is watching every penny we spend. I hope you get really good support. You are a wonderful artist and photographer. May God bless you. Helen
This evoked a powerful sense of place! For a few minutes I was transported from my kitchen table to an old mill town in Connecticut and the peace of a convent. Now back to work :)
I double checked to be sure, but it's true; I literally have the draft of a post with the same title on my Substack! That is, "The Hidden Heart". But it's about something entirely different. Well. Not entirely. But it's not about a convent and it's a bit more abstract. Maybe I do have to finish that one. :)
Jeffrey, I live near Los Angeles, have never been remotely near Baltic CT, but somehow feel like I know it after seeing your photos and reading your words. There are plenty of places in the world which time has forgotten, but God never forgets, He just repurposes. The melancholy might even seem to be part of the plan, pulling us toward the beautiful faith and joyful sacrifice of these Sisters of Charity. Amen.

Haha! Now you have to finish it. I want to read it!
I’ll do my best! I checked it again and it’s actually more a kind of poem. Maybe for my next post, next week!
